Disney+ is once again tackling an iconic cartoon from your childhood

Disney+ will continue to dig into the childhoods of millions of people for a new project. An emblematic series from the 90s will go through the reboot box.

Making something new out of something old is a practice highly valued by the entertainment industry. Maybe even too much and often it ends badly with projects that don’t live up to the originals. But that’s how it is and Mickey’s firm – like other companies – doesn’t plan to stop anytime soon. Here is the next Disney+ recycling according to The Hollywood Reporter and Variety.

An iconic 90s cartoon returns

The big-eared society likes to raid your memories sometimes for the better, but also for the worse. After the recent Peter & Wendy, the live-action film The Little Mermaid, the future feature film Bambi and the remake of Goosebumps, Mickey’s company had another idea. A return of Rox and Rouky or Pocahontas? Neither, but it does concern a great Disney studio classic.

According to the two American magazines, Disney+ will reboot Gargoyles, the cult cartoon from the 90s. An animated series in which we followed gargoyles who were in charge of protecting Manhattan. Bob Iger’s company plans to bring back the license with a brand new series, but in live action. And for this, the platform called on two names in horror cinema. Gary Dauberman (Annabelle) and James Wan (The Conjuring).

According to information collected by The Hollywood Report, Dauberman will serve as screenwriter, executive producer and showrunner on the new Disney+ series Gargoyles. James Wan, who has enjoyed great success with his horror productions, will also be executive producer through his company Atomic Monster. The two men have already collaborated together in the past, notably on the Annabelle franchise, and were surely chosen for their ability to generate a lot of money with next to nothing.

A live-action Gargoyles series on Disney+

If old rumors are to be believed, Gargoyles should have already returned with a live-action film directed by Jordan Peele (Get Out, Nope). It was a wish of the director… who got a hitch from the American giant. A few years later, Disney+ took up this idea and transformed it into a new series. And feelings are shared on the Web. Some are afraid of the result, that it will even be canceled very quickly, while others are already ready to welcome the project.

“I have the feeling that the series will be canceled after one or two seasons”; ” Finally ! I always said it would lend itself well to live-action, the storyline being so deep”; “I’m very divided because it’s a big part of my childhood. It could be as great as it could be bad, but based on the current trend, it will probably be bad”; “I love this cartoon so much, but I’m torn”; ” Oh !!! I was waiting for this! »; “I love Gargoyles. Let’s go ! »; “Yeah, Gargoyles was my thing back then”; “We believe in James Wan”; “Thank you Disney” can we read on X.

The original Gargoyles series was broadcast at the time on Canal+, then on TF1. But if you want to take a retro trip, all three seasons are available on Disney+.
