Disney +: Pixar dares to play its first gay main character

Pixar has released its first short film on the streaming portal Disney +, which has a main gay character. "Out" addresses Greg's difficult endeavors to admit to being homosexual. The nine-minute film is part of the "SparksShorts" series, in which independent short films are featured by Pixar employees. Disney + previously posted a trailer on twitter.

Change of course at Disney?

Previously, Disney + had an animated LGBTQ character on the screens for the first time this year in "Onward". Lena Waithe (36, "Queen & Slim") lent her voice to Officer Specter. Previously, Disney and Pixar had only dared marginally to portray same-sex love.

In "Finding Dorie", for example, a supposedly lesbian couple pushed a stroller through the park. At that time, those responsible distanced themselves from a clear statement. Director Andrew Stanton (54, "Toy Story 4") at the time said only to "USA Today": "You can be whatever you want the viewer to be."
