DID YOU KNOW – ROBIN HOOD

  • Did you know that Brother Tuck was originally meant to look like a pig, but was eventually turned into a badger to avoid creating religious tension?
  • The film is very slightly inspired by the Renart’s novel, short animal stories set in the Middle Ages. In these stories, Renart is a fox and his main adversary Ysengrin has the appearance of a wolf, as in the Disney feature film. The comparison ends there, however, because Walt did not want a faithful adaptation, judging that Renart’s lecherous aspect was not compatible with a hero for children.
  • At the time of the preparation of Robin Hood, the Disney firm had had no more success with an animated film since The Jungle Book (1967), the last film supervised by Walt. The animation department had suffered headcount and budget reductions, so many scenes are recycled from previous Disney films (like Little John, copied from Baloo from The Jungle Book, for example).
  • The film had a moderate box office result to save the animation department from demise, but it wasn’t until the studio’s next feature, The Adventures of Bernard and Bianca, that Disney would turn the corner with a real success in the world.
