Disney: ‘The Little Mermaid’ largely dominates the US box office

(CercleFinance.com) – With over $95 million in box office receipts for its first weekend, ‘The Little Mermaid’ has largely dominated the North American box office in recent days.

According to data from Box Office Mojo, the film comfortably outpaced ‘Fast X’, the tenth installment in the Fast & Furious saga produced by Universal, which raked in $23 million.

The film, a CGI remake of the 1989 cartoon, was produced by Disney for an estimated budget of around $250 million.

Taking into account international admissions, its receipts already total more than 185 million dollars.

Directed by Rob Marshall – who notably directed an episode of the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ franchise – the feature film follows Ariel, a young mermaid attracted to the terrestrial world and who will fall under the spell of Prince Eric.

‘The Little Mermaid’ is part of a long series of ‘blockbusters’ planned for this summer as Covid restrictions are lifted, including the latest Indiana Jones, Spider-Man and Transformers, as well as ‘The Flash’ or ‘M:I 7’.
