Disney: the live-action film Hercules has found its director … and that should reassure fans

The remake of Hercules seems to have finally found its director. An announcement that will delight fans of the live-action Aladdin of 2019 in particular…

Notice to Aladdin live-action fans, Guy Ritchie is trying the Disney adventure again! At the helm of the 2019 remake, the British director had hit hard: a successful first experience with Disney studios since his version of the cult classic had been a great success, notably being his first film to cross the billion dollar mark in revenue. global level.

As reported by Deadline, this new Hercules live will be produced by AGBO, the production company of the brothers directors of Avengers: Endgame, Joe and Anthony Russo. The studio is also reportedly recruiting screenwriters after an early draft by action movie expert Dave Callaham (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings).

This time, Guy Ritchie will oversee the remake of the 1997 animated film recounting the adventures of the famous son of Zeus. It was Tate Donovan (Rocketman, Argo…) who, at the time, lent his voice to the cult hero, kidnapped by Hades (James Woods) when he was a baby and forced to live among mortals. Assisted by the satyr Philoctetes (Danny DeVito), the young demigod gradually learned to use his superhuman strength to prove himself worthy of living among the gods of Mount Olympus. On his way, he notably met the beautiful Megara, voiced by actress Susan Egan.

The original film is known to have been tirelessly rewritten over its many years of development, with 18 (!) credited screenwriters contributing to the final product by Ron Clements and John Musker. Faithful to the Disney classics, Hercules is a true musical story: its catchy soundtrack is credited to award-winning genius composer Alan Menken, who also composed the music for The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Pocahontas and The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

Ritchie, who just wrapped filming an action thriller starring Jake Gyllenhaal, previously signed Operation Fortune: Ruse De Guerre, a spy film he wrote, directed and produced with Jason Statham and which is currently pending release.

After Aladdin (2019), Beauty and the Beast (2017) or even Mulan (2020), Hercules is thus part of the ever-growing list of Disney animated films revisited in live-action. Before heading to Olympus, viewers will discover the live action versions of The Little Mermaid, Peter Pan, Snow White and Pinocchio led by Tom Hanks as Geppetto from September 8 on Disney+.
