Disney +: the price of the subscription will increase despite the arrival of advertisements


Disney announced today that it will increase the cost of its ad-free Disney+ subscription by 38%. This is the largest price increase introduced by Disney since the service launched in 2019.

Disney has just announced bad news for all its subscribers dreaded since the beginning of the year. The price of its ad-free Disney+ subscription which is currently offered at 7.99 dollars per month or 8.99 euros in France will increase by the end of the year. From December 8, you will have to pay $ 10.99 per month for the formula without advertisingan increase of $3.

This price change will coincide with the launch of the streaming service’s next advertised plan, which Disney says will be priced at $7.99 per months, the old subscription price without advertising. While it was originally thought that this would be cheaper than the current offer, Disney+ ended up being content to increase the prices and position the cheapest offer on top of the one that already existed.

Disney+ raises prices for its subscribers, but not right away

As Disney + has announced, the increase in the price of the basic subscription will not be effective immediately, since it will not come into effect until December 8 in the United States. In France, Disney+ has not yet mentioned any price increase, but we already know that this is inevitable. It could occur within the next few weeks, and our subscription could reach around 11.99 euros.

Currently, competitors like Netflix and HBO Max are charging more for their standard service, but both are also preparing ad-supported versions of their service. At Netflix, for example, we know that the subscription with advertisements will offer fewer films and TV series, for lack of agreement with the production studios.

At Disney +, subscribers would have access to the entire catalog. The arrival of such a formula with advertisements at the end of the year was not a surprise, since Disney+ had already officially announced this new subscription last March. Earlier in the year, Disney has promised to limit the total advertising load an average of four minutes of advertising per hour. The company also revealed that the preschool programs will not feature any advertising.
