Disney unveils a scary robot rabbit to animate amusement parks

The design branch of the Disney parks has staged an interaction with an impressive robot which should eventually tumble between the attractions.

Disney has unveiled the first robot that will walk through its parks on March 10. Parks President Josh D’Amaro and Disney Imagineers showed off a company-developed prototype similar to Judy Hopps, the little bunny with rollerblades from Zootopia. The machine came out of a box during a presentation at SXSW, a famous multimedia festival in Texas. If the automaton is impressive in its movements, it reminds us more in its purely metallic version of a mixture of the Terminator and the cursed girl in the circle.

The presentation went on to demonstrate the state-of-the-art mobility of a child-sized robot that can perform dynamic maneuvers, including falling and getting up, while rolling

This is our latest effort to make robots that we believe can have an emotional connection with our guests. said Tony Dohi, research and development manager at Disney. ” We use high performance materials, but also motion capture data because we want to do performances that evoke emotions “.

It’s unclear where and when the robot might be introduced to parks. A Zootopia themed area is set to open later this year at Shanghai Disneyland.
