The huge parking lot at Disneyland Paris is covered with solar panels. The park’s shade house, which also announces the installation of a heat pump, is also the largest in Europe.

In the fall of 2020, Disneyland Paris launched a major project aimed at equipping itself with the largest photovoltaic shade plant in Europe. With a few months of delay, the famous amusement park declared, this Monday, April 22, 2024, that the plant was now 100% operational. The tourist destination teams added that they had also installed a heat pump that could function as a heater, air conditioner and cooler.

80,000 solar panels above Disneyland Paris visitor vehicles

The 11,200 spaces in the large Disneyland Paris car park are covered with 80,000 solar panels, which will allow the park to produce 36 GHw each year, the equivalent of the energy consumption of a city of 17,000 inhabitants.

This immense power plant, with a surface area of 20 hectares, must reduce greenhouse gas emissions by some 890 tonnes of CO2 per year in the territory of Val d’Europe, which includes the destination.

The installation is in any case part of a more environmentally friendly approach for Disneyland Paris, where 18% of the heating needs (for the two amusement parks and the Disneyland Hotel) are already covered by the geothermal energy, in partnership with the Center Parcs holiday center, Villages Nature Paris.

Disneyland Paris multiplies “green” initiatives

Disneyland Paris immediately announced the installation of a heat pump, more precisely a heat pump which can simultaneously produce heating, cooling and air conditioning. It should help the destination reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 9%, its natural gas consumption by 14% and its heating needs by 10%.

The heat fridge pump will also make it possible to reduce by almost 30,000 m3 consumption of recycled water, which comes from the Disneyland Paris wastewater treatment plant. All this water saved can thus be used for other uses, for example cleaning roads or watering green spaces.

Disneyland Paris, which has 15 million annual visitors with its main park and the Walt Disney Studios (which will soon be renamed “Disney Adventure World”), is therefore strengthening its environmental commitments here, thanks to several major projects, which are slowly coming to fruition. but surely. A first step.
