Divorce is an extremely painful experience. Ending your marriage is never an easy decision. In addition to the often terrible heartache, there are all the legal difficulties. If we need anything at a time like this, it is loving support from our families and friends.

Unfortunately, sometimes we cannot count on these people. On Reddit, some men and women are talking about the shocking reactions to the news of their divorce. These words must have hit them very hard.

  1. When my ex-husband told his mother about our divorce, she wrote to him: 'Thank god I have always hated her. Now you can get together with your ex again. "I hope she knows we are getting a divorce because of her.
  2. I cant believe how many friends of mine have quietly disappearedsince I announced my divorce. I thought they would help me get through this: /
  3. When I told my father that I would get a divorce, he said: 'But he's meant for big things, you should support him!'. Without thinking, I replied: 'But I do too!'. That was a year ago and it still hurts.
  4. I told my mother that I was getting a divorce and that someone else was dating… and she said absolutely NOTHING! Not a word. Then she changed the subject.
  5. I told my "best friend" that I was getting a divorce because he was cheating on me. She told me it was my fault. I got 'bored' and he deserved to have some fun.
  6. When I told my family about our divorce, everyone said they never liked my husband and were happy not to have to pretend they liked him anymore.
  7. My mother said about my divorce: 'It will be hard for you to find a new husband with two children.' … Thank you.
  8. When I told my parents about the divorce, they said I should work on it. Aaaaaah. Do you think I shouldn't have done that? I would not announce this if it were not certain.
  9. My father-in-law said about my divorce: 'As much as you text, it doesn't look like you have a broken heart'. I replied that my heart had been broken a long time ago.
  10. My cousin said about my divorce: 'It's okay! You are 27! You're young ". But none of it makes it easier. It still hurts.
  11. When I told my family about the divorce, they shrugged and said, 'We would have thought you could do better …'.
  12. When I told my mother about the divorce, she asked me whether I cheated. No I'm not! Thank you!

Hopefully, these confessions remind many people of the importance of being careful with words in such an emotionally difficult time. Careless and hurtful words like these can pierce our heads and hearts like arrows and act like poison there for years.
