DIY water pearls: here's the recipe!

They make children (and parents) happy by occupying them for several hours. However, you don't know exactly what they contain … To regain control, you are given a natural recipe that is super easy to make.

Do you know the pearls of water? These small malleable balls of all colors are a real sensory treasure for children. They are found in commerce at prices defying all competition. However, even if the quantity / price ratio is unbeatable, it is almost impossible toreally know what products they contain, and especially, if they are dangerous for our little ones.
To overcome these questions, nothing better than making these little magic balls yourself! For this, you will only need two ingredients: some water and tapioca pearls.

The recipe for making water pearls yourself

Ingredients:

  • Tapioca pearls to be found in supermarkets or in an Asian grocery store
  • Water
  • Food coloring if you want to add color, but the pearls can also remain transparent

Preparation:

In a bowl of water, put the tapioca pearls so that it swells, following the directions on the packaging. It's ready !
If you have chosen to add food coloring, dilute it with water before placing the pearls in it.

What can you do with water pearls?

Although they are made mainly for playing, water pearls can have many other virtues, especially when it comes to of a toddler’s awakening. Their texture will not only help him develop his touch but he will also be able to manipulate them during of different Montessori activities.

Via transfer activities for example, with a spoon and different containers, the little will develop fine motor skills. If you have added different colors to it, it will also be able to practice to learn colors, placing the red pearl in the red pot, and so on.

Note carefully, even homemade, these water pearls are no less dangerous if ingested by a little one. Make sure you stay close to it when handling.
