DIY wavy mirror or wavy mirror in video: the easy and inexpensive technique: Femme Actuelle Le MAG

A key piece of our interiors, from the bedroom to the living room (including the bathroom, an obligation), the mirror can also become a trendy object. Clean or colored, without edge, or wavy (meaning wavy), we adapt it according to the style we want to give to the room. And the best thing is to make it or customize it, to be sure that it adapts perfectly to your interior. You are ready ?

What is the wavy mirror trend or wavy ?

He’s everywhere on social media! The “ultrafragola” mirror (ultra or super strawberry in Italian) by designer Ettore Sottsass for Poltronova has become an iconic piece. Although created in the 1970s, it has made a strong comeback to the point of becoming THE selfie mirror, as iconic as those who take photos in it. We were already talking to you about it in 2021 in the trends of the year, but in 2024, it continues to occupy our inspiration boards and to be declined endlessly.

How to reproduce it easily and inexpensively?

Hannika Hinds, known as nickname of _blondesigns_ offers a very easy version of this DIY mirror on his Tik Tok account. Use a full-length mirror without an edge. If you don’t already have one, look on second-hand sales sites or at flea markets. Nothing is lost, everything is recovered!

You will need:

  • a rimless mirror
  • adhesive vinyl in roll (here white, but you can choose the color you prefer)
  • scissors
  • of masking tape or paper tape
  • a precision cutter or scalpel
  • a card (library for example) or marouflette.

The steps of the tutorial:

  1. First clean the mirror with glass cleaner and a microfiber cloth.
  2. With recycled paper (gift wrap or newspaper) or directly with the back of the vinyl if you can write on the surface, position the strips on the outside of the mirror to form a frame, stabilize with masking tape.
  3. Once the edge is in place, trace the shape and waves you like. Editor’s tip: use a bowl or glass to draw regular rounds.
  4. Peel off the edges (if necessary, transfer the markings to the vinyl). Cut the adhesive vinyl.
  5. Peel off a little of the protective backing of the vinyl, then stick it to the mirror, gradually, rubbing down as you go with a card or marouflette to eliminate the bubbles between the mirror and the vinyl.
  6. Repeat all around the mirror, and voilà!

If you want to reproduce it “hard”, by creating a formwork all around the mirror, find the tutorial by Alichuree on Instagram and Tik Tok. Now it’s your turn !
