The University of California, Santa Barbara has developed a robot that puts everything else to shame when it comes to jumping. The record height is made possible by a clever design.

- The jumping robot developed in California can jump 32.9 meters high. He himself measures only 30 centimeters.
- No robot has ever reached this height before. The record so far was around 10 meters.
- When jumping, it accelerates from 0 to 60 mph (96.5 km/h) in 9 milliseconds. 315 work G.
What looks like two bicycle tires held together by rubber bands when stationary contracts like an arrow during flight, which improves aerodynamics. The scientists believe that this robot is close to the theoretical maximum that is feasible with currently available materials. And whoever sees the following video will understand why.
Why not just fly instead of jumping?
As can be seen in the nature YouTube video linked above, the scientists did not intend to develop a toy when developing the robot. Rather, the robot was developed for situations in which, for example, a drone flight is out of the question in order to transport something over longer distances.
This is the case, for example, in space, when landing on asteroids where there is no atmosphere. On the moon, the jumping robot could jump 125 meters high and half a kilometer.
