Django on Canal+: did you recognize the star of the original film in the series?

Episode 7 of season 1 of “Django” broadcast this Monday March 6 on Canal +, pays tribute to Sergio Corbucci’s original film, released in 1966. Have you spotted this unusual wink?

Canal+ is broadcasting this Monday, March 6 the two new unreleased episodes of Django, a modern western that takes us directly to the Far West, in the 1860s-1870s. For the occasion, Matthias Schoenaerts portrays Django, a man haunted by the murder of his family eight years earlier who continues to search for his daughter, in the hope that she has survived the massacre.

He is very surprised to find her in New Babylon, about to marry John. Convinced that the city is threatened, Django is inflexible: he will not take the risk of losing his daughter again.

A nod to the original film

Much like Quentin Tarantino’s Oscar-winning Django Unchained, Django creators Leonardo Fasoli (ZeroZeroZero) and Maddalena Ravagli were inspired by Sergio Corbucci’s Italian film of the same name, which hit theaters in 1966.

To pay tribute to the original work, Franco Nero, the interpreter of the original Django, makes an appearance in episode 7 of the series, which is broadcast tonight at 9:10 p.m. on Canal+.

It’s more than a wink, it’s a tribute”, explained Matthias Schoenaerts to our colleagues from the JDD. “It was a very special moment. Franco Nero has a very youthful energy. He is very lively and he makes jokes all the time!”.

A five-star cast

In Django, Matthias Schoenaerts gives the reply to the German Lisa Vicari (Dark), who plays her daughter Sarah for the occasion, but also to Nicholas Pinnock (For Life) and Noomi Rapace (Sherlock Holmes, Prometheus), who slip respectively in the skin of the ruthless John Ellis and Elizabeth, the enemy of the latter.

Find two new episodes of Django every Monday from 9:10 p.m. on CANAL +. The 10 episodes are already available in full on MyCANAL.
