If you’re planning to ditch your iPhone for an Android smartphone, Apple will soon make it easier for you.

According to a document published after the entry into force of the DMA, the new European regulation on digital markets, the Apple brand is in fact working on a practical solution to transfer data from an iPhone to another smartphone.

How will it work? No one knows yet, and even Apple probably doesn’t have all the answers yet. “Apple aims to make this solution available by fall 2025,” the document reads. The company is also working on a solution to export and import data from one browser to another browser on the same device. According to Apple, this solution will be available later this year or early next year.

Switching from iOS to Android is easier than the other way around

Browsing through social media, we noticed that switching from iOS to Android is seen as complicated at the moment, especially when it comes to transferring passwords and iCloud data. According to users, Google makes it easier to switch from an Android smartphone to an iPhone, in particular thanks to the Migrate to iOS application – available in the Play Store.

Migrate to iOS is an application for Android, developed by Apple and which should allow Android smartphone users to easily migrate to an iPhone if they wish.

But in the other direction, if Google does offer a Migrate to Android application – available on the App Store – it only allows you to transfer the most important data such as contacts, photos, videos, messages and calendars . Data that is less crucial, but sometimes valuable nonetheless, is not transferable.

Switch to Android is an iOS application developed by Google that allows users who wish to easily switch from an iPhone to an Android smartphone, or from an iPad to a tablet.

Apple in the sights of European authorities

Specifically, the document released by Apple never explicitly mentions Android. However, it is clear that the “different operating system” cited by the brand refers to Google’s mobile OS.

As a reminder, the new regulation on digital markets, the Digital Markets Act (or DMA=, entered into force last week. Its objective is to ensure healthier competition within the European Union, and it particularly aims tech giants like Apple. Furthermore, the Cupertino company has already been in the sights of European authorities for several years.

If we do not know exactly how Apple will act to facilitate the transfer of data between iOS and Android, it could be that the brand provides tools to third-party developers so that they can create applications offering this solution. The document states that whatever solution is developed, it will help other mobile operating system vendors develop solutions for transferring data between different operating systems.
