Exceptions in collective agreements

We don’t always think about it, but some company collective agreements make exceptions and can give employees the opportunity to be absent on the day their child starts school, or at least to adjust their schedules. However, be careful, in general these authorizations are granted under certain conditions (children’s age, school level, etc.). To give you an idea, here are the agreements in various sectors that grant this day of absence:

  • The collective agreement for employees of insurance companies authorizes employees to be absent for one day for the start of the school year for one or more children under 7 years of age. A paid absence;
  • The collective agreement for cleaning companies provides that employees whose child is entering school for the first time benefit from a paid day off;
  • The national collective agreement for hairdressing authorizes a paid absence of a maximum of three hours for parents whose school-going child is aged 13 years maximum;
  • The collective agreement for distance selling companies grants flexible working hours to take young children to school on the first day of school;
  • The collective agreement for executives, technicians and advertising employees authorizes parents to take half a day of absence leave to attend their child’s return to school;
  • The furniture trade collective agreement provides that employees whose child enters kindergarten, CP or 6th grade benefit from two hours of paid absence.

It costs nothing to consult your own collective agreement to find out if you are entitled to it! And in cases where nothing is provided for in your agreement, do not hesitate to turn directly to your employer or your human resources manager for him. request an exceptional leave of absence, for half a day or a whole day. He can give it to you. You also have the option of request permission to arrive a few hours late and subsequently recover these hours not worked.

Also to note that an employee, in particular the executives, who depend on a convention of fixed price in days, can arrive late of a few hours without that being reproached to him.
