More secure and more practical than the password, the pass key (access key) protects our Amazon accounts.
Evolution is still slow, but passkeys are gradually starting to emerge to replace our passwords. New major player to adopt this technology is Amazon, which announces support for passkeys on browsers and mobile applications.
How to configure a passkey on Amazon?
It will now be possible to configure a passkey to access your Amazon Shopping account (Amazon Store) more easily and securely on smartphones and tablets. The feature is already rolling out to iOS users, and it will be rolling out to Android devices soon.
To set up a passkey, go to the “Your account” section, then select “Connection and security”. Next to “Passkeys,” tap “Configure.” Then simply follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.
Once the passkey is validated, users can log in to their Amazon account on a compatible device using their biometric data (fingerprint or facial recognition) or by typing their device’s PIN.
Unlock your device = log in to your account
The beauty of access keys is that they cannot be written or guessed: physical access to the authorized device is required to access the account. Unlike the password, the passkey cannot be shared by accident with a malicious actor. This system is also faster than using double authentication.
“ When a customer uses a passkey on their device, it proves that they own their device and are able to unlock it. Customers no longer have to worry about remembering unique passwords or using easy-to-guess identifiers, like names or dates of birth.”recalls Amazon.
Big tech players like Google, Microsoft and Apple have been working on replacing passwords for years. These still have many years to live, but we should gradually be able to do without them on the major digital platforms.
