Do you have the right to automatic declaration?

To verify is to declare! More than 10 million households can avoid the chore of declaration… without doing anything. Well, you are still supposed to check that the information is correct. But there is no need to complete or validate if the amounts are correct. Can you take advantage of it this year?

1 – Who are the more than 10 million eligible households?

The automatic declaration of income for 2023 is addressed to taxpayers who have declared for the year 2022 only income known to the administration (salaries, pensions, income from movable capital) and who have not reported a change in family situation or change of address, we read in the practical brochure of the General Directorate of Public Finances (DGFiP).

2 – Who is excluded from automatic declaration, and why?

It is reserved for the simplest declarations. Those for which the pre-filled amounts remain unchanged in all cases. Therefore, not everyone who is used to filling out more complex resources can take advantage of it. here is list of excluded householdsthe detail appearing in annex of the General Tax Code:

  • Those who declare for the first time.
  • Those who declared, the previous year (therefore in spring 2023, for 2022 income), self-employed income (BIC, BNC, BA), land income, life annuities (onerous title), income from foreign sources, financial income from foreign sources, life insurance withdrawals subject to flat tax or the collection of alimony.
  • THE business managers or partnerscertain professions incorporating variable remuneration (commissions, etc.), childminders and journalists (due to specific deduction), those liable for real estate wealth tax (IFI) and taxpayers formerly domiciled MonacoMayotte, Saint-Martin or Saint-Barthlemy, if they declared themselves as such in 2023.
  • If the DGFiP does not have the necessary elements to identify the taxpayer and their tax household.

3 – How do you know if you can benefit from automatic declaration?

The DGFiP will tell you! Taxpayers eligible for this system are informed by email, writes the tax administration on impots.gouv.fr. This email will notify you that the summary of information known by the tax administration is available, for verification, in your particular space.

4 Can I request to benefit from automatic declaration?

No. There is no point in claiming this tacit declaration! If the tax authorities do not offer it to you, you do not have the right to it.

5 Can paper filers benefit from this?

Yes. The online declaration is mandatory… unless you are unable to do so, that is to say if you do not have internet access or if you feel unable to complete the online form. Last year, more than 5 million households completed a paper declaration. Around half (approximately) of the households which benefited from automatic declaration received a summary document by mail, the other half having received an email warning them that this document can be consulted online.

In paper format, if the pre-filled information is correct, you do not need to resend the document. It is also written on the first page in capital letters: Check below. If you agree > don’t send anything back!
