“Do you know how much fear…”: DFB team reveals the whole truth behind pool video

“Do you know how much fear …”
DFB-Elf reveals the whole truth behind pool video

Honest words from the German national football team: After the viral pool kick video, the DFB published a “making of”. The spectacular juggling on the water wasn’t quite so easy for Joshua Kimmich, Niclas Füllkrug and co. Rudi Völler also plays a role.

The German national football team is apparently doing everything right at the moment. During a pool kick in the Herzogenaurach team headquarters, Joshua Kimmich, Niclas Füllkrug and co. scored an almost unbelievable “goal” after a juggling combination with their colleagues at the edge of the pool across the water with a total of 24 ball contacts. “One take”, of course, as the DFB assured the scene in an Instagram video on Sunday. In other words, on the first attempt.

But what about “one take”? The next day, the answer is revealed. The German national football team needed more attempts than they had initially fibbed about in their fun pool match with a golden finish in the Herzogenaurach team headquarters. This is shown by a “making of” that the DFB eleven published at the request of many fans under the motto “You want it – you get it”.

“Rudi, do a diving header into the pool”

There you can see how numerous balls miss their target and splash into the water. “It never works,” says assistant coach Sandro Wagner after another failed attempt by Joshua Kimmich, Niclas Füllkrug and co. to kick the ball over five stations across the pool and ultimately into a lifebuoy. “You have to take a risk!” Kimmich calls out at one point, and Robert Andrich uses the same words to encourage his colleagues. At first in vain.

Because Niclas Füllkrug misses several “chances”, he has to put up with being mocked by his teammates: “Our number 9 in Germany!” Kimmich jokes: “Boy, we’re not professional athletes.” And David Raum criticizes a teammate: “Dude, plan for me with your head…!” When he goes for the ball too timidly, the Leipzig player admits: “Do you know how scared I am of falling for that?!”

When DFB sports director Rudi Völler suddenly appears, the pool quintet, which also includes Pascal Groß, hopes for support. “Rudi, do a diving header into the pool!” Ultimately, it is Füllkrug who heads the ball into the lifebuoy. “Basically, you can draw a positive conclusion,” he says afterwards with a grin: “Nobody was injured.”
