In the midst of an energy crisis, savings are always welcome. To limit excessively high bills, here is a tip, called “SlowHeat”, which allows you to live comfortably when it is 15 degrees at home.
In 2020, specialists and researchers from the universities of Brussels and Louvain imagined a project to reduce electricity bills. To do this, they started the SlowHeat project (slow heating) in order to find solutions to heat your home at a lower cost. One of the specialists, Geoffrey Van Moeseke, even agreed to test the possibilities offered by this project. “We are six in the family, we have a house of 200 square meters and, at the moment, set the central thermostat to a maximum of 15°C”he confided in a period when the outside temperatures were negative.
And if the expert assured that he did not feel the cold in his home, it is because he mastered the SlowHeat method to perfection, starting with her choice of clothes. “Currently, I’m wearing a cotton sweater, quite classic, over which I have an old, fairly warm cardigan. Underneath, I still have two layers: a T-shirt and technical sportswear, outdoors.he had indicated, specifying that he was wearing socks and “old stuffed slippers which are extremely hot” for the feet.

SlowHeat: experts recommend electric radiant heaters
In addition to the clothing tips, Geoffrey Van Moeseke had also insisted on the importance of using electric radiant heaters. The expert, who owns two of them, turned them on for one to two hours a day in the busiest or coldest rooms. In the end, even if the human body suffers during the first weeks, the SlowHeat method really settles in the long term. “It was more difficult the first winter than the second, which shows that there is a form of habit and adaptation that develops over time”concluded Geoffrey Van Moeseke.
