Sparks of Hope follows the first game Mario + Rabbids released in 2017 on the Nintendo console. A real surprise when it was released, the Ubisoft game featured the unlikely association between the Nintendo mascot and the unbearable Rabbids. All these beautiful people competed in an intelligent tactical game with well-balanced humor. In this sequel released last October, Mario and his friends return to service for an even better game than the previous one.
Mario, accustomed to traveling since mario odyssey, must travel several worlds aboard a spaceship in order to free planets from the yoke of Cursa, an evil entity. The story is only a pretext to present varied worlds, conducive to fun exploration phases and to add hours to the life of the game. Like any self-respecting Ubisoft game, the filling is in order . But if you’re not allergic to Rabbids, scrolling through the game leads to often funny wacky scenes and situations. Failing to make adults laugh, Mario and the Rabbids will find their audience among the youngest.

Whether you played the first, or want to discover the license directly through this second episode entitled Sparks of Hope, less than 40 € is an excellent price. Know where you are stepping though. Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope is a turn-based tactical game. You control Mario and his team (made up of figures known from the Mario license or the Rabbids), in more or less partitioned levels. Inside these you will have to place your characters intelligently in order to maximize the attacks and damage you can do to enemies, while thinking about your defense. Round after round, you use the elements of the decor as well as the weapons and bonuses at your disposal to establish a winning strategy.
Like any tactical game, the main interest is to think before acting and to always be one or more moves ahead of the opponent. For players accustomed to strategy games or just video games, Nintendo’s title does not offer a great challenge. The fights are simple, provided you pay attention to each action performed and think a minimum. For a less accustomed public or for younger players, this Mario + Rabbids is a great way to experience what gaming has to offer that’s different. Finally, the title is fluid and very pretty. Whether on normal Switch, OLED, or Lite, it runs well and is a feast for the eyes.
