Do you need to have played Hades before starting Hades 2?

Hades 2 is one of the most anticipated video games of the moment. It is expected for the first half of 2024, in early access on PC. With a release approaching, a question arises: is it necessary to play the first opus?

Hades 2 will undoubtedly be one of the highlights of the year 2024. And for good reason: we are talking about the sequel to one of the most notable games of the decade. Released in September 2020, Hades was unanimously acclaimed with its stunning artistic direction, addictive gameplay and intelligent storytelling. As the release of the next part draws closer, a question arises: do you have to have played the first opus?

JovemNerd was able to speak with Greg Kasavin, the director of Hades 2. He indicates that “ Hades 2 is a direct sequel that takes several elements designed in the first game. But it is important for us to make it an independent experience. You can play the game without completing the first one. » Good news for those who missed the first episode. However, we still recommend playing it.

Hades 2 will be a standalone sequel

If we rely on the words of Greg Kasavin, we understand thatHades 2 will be a sequel in terms of structure and gameplay, but not necessarily from a narrative point of view. This is undoubtedly why the character will change: we played Zagreus, the son of the god of the underworld, and we will now play Melinoë, his sister. It is neither more nor less than the “ immortal princess of the underworld. »

Other good news: Hades 2 will normally be available in early access by the end of June. Greg Kasavin confided that the title has been in development for three years, so it is time to put it in the hands of players. Please note, however, that this stage will only be offered on PC and that the content will be expanded over time. The Supergiant Games studio had already opted for this strategy with Hades, launched at the end of 2018 on PC before a final release in 2020 and ports to the different platforms afterwards. This means that console owners will have to wait a few more months.

You want to discover Hades (you would be right to do so)? Please note that it can be played on PC, Xbox One, PS4, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, PS5 and Nintendo Switch. Finally, a mobile version is arriving on March 19, but you will need to be a Netflix subscriber and use iOS to benefit from it.
