Do you support the "Referendum for Animal Rights" project?

The animal cause has never been so much on the front of the stage. Parliamentarians, big bosses and a majority of the population are in favor of a referendum on the question of the rights of our faithful companions.

The dog information site Caniprof has just posted its latest poll on the question: "Do the French support the" Referendum for animals "project?

This is a very first investigation following the movement for a shared initiative referendum (RIP) against animal abuse. The call was launched in early July. Many French business leaders, including Xavier Niel and Jacques-Antoine Granjon, co-founder and CEO of e-commerce site Veepee, joined the project, all encouraged by media journalist Hugo Clément. The call has already received the support of 23 associations such as L214, the SPA (Society for the protection of animals), the League for the protection of birds (LPO) and some fifty personalities such as Nicolas Hulot, Juliette Binoche, or even Yann Arthus- Bertrand have associated their name.

According to the figures, the French are year after year more sensitive to the animal cause. The analysis carried out by the "Politics / News" pole of Ifop on a representative national sample of 1,000 French people shows real support from the population for this idea of a referendum.

"Almost three quarters of the French (73%) declare themselves in favor of the organization of a referendum on animal rights, thus emphasizing both the broad support for direct democracy procedures in France but also for the animal theme that the French wish to include in the public debate ", is stated in the survey.

For 57% of those questioned, the closure of shows with wild animals has become a necessity. And 75% want the use of animal experiments to be banned when alternatives exist. Other measures, according to the survey, are acclaimed such as: the obligation to guarantee animals the possibility of daily access to the outdoors (87% favorable opinions), the ban on the breeding of animals in cage (73%), the ban on fur farming (68%). There is also the ban on hunting with hounds, and the digging up of foxes and badgers (67%).

"Animal rights organizations have stood alone for years. This fight is no longer marginalized, nor ridiculed by politicians. The hope is to tell themselves that citizens have the power to act and that they do. impose on politicians, "Christophe Marie, spokesperson for the Bardot Foundation, told AFP.

Le Parisien recalls the words of LREM deputy, Loïc Dombreval, author of a report on animal cruelty: "for the National Assembly to put it on the agenda, we need the support of 185 parliamentarians and 4.7 million of signatures ".

Dixit Hugo Clément, "the investigative work of associations and the media in industrial farms and slaughterhouses has greatly contributed to changing the way the population sees animals".

According to The Parisian, the French would feel more concerned by the animal question than by the pension reform, thus 49% would vote if a referendum on animal rights was organized, against 48% for the subject of pensions.
