In January 2021, a new scandal stood out for the government. In question, a start of the campaign vaccination "snail" speed, far behind our European neighbors, especially the British, who are very effective in this area. Even further from Israel, the fastest country in the world to vaccinate its population with already more than half of the inhabitants vaccinated, including 33% having received two doses. On the side of Jean Castex, Olivier Véran and others, an excuse: France is the only country to have given priority to nursing home residents, the most sensitive populations (which represent nearly a third of the victims of Covid-19 since the start of the epidemic). But there are others who have not yet been privileged enough in the vaccination campaign, although they are on the front line in the face of the pandemic: caregivers.
"Put on a white coat, it's not a priest's clothes"
For the doctor Jean-Daniel Flaysakier, healthcare workers are the big forgotten by the government … but they also have a big part of the responsibility, since too many of them have so far refused to be vaccinated. The doctor was the guest of Anne-Elisabeth Lemoine in C to you Thursday March 4. The opportunity for him to tackle his colleagues: "For me the first lack of good citizenship is really the caregivers. We cannot be happy to have nursing homes in which we have a formidable vaccination rate and think that only 20% of the people who take care of these elderly people are vaccinated"he declares before comparing the French situation with that of Israel, again a leader in the matter."They have 80% of caregivers who have agreed to seek treatment. We are not even 30%. It is a scandal"adds Jean-Daniel Flaysakier.
He also knows that he may not make many friends among his colleagues, but fully accepts his words: "Put on a white coat, it's not a priest's clothes. Putting on a white blouse is more than just dressing in a piece of clothing to protect yourself. Behind that there is something else. You are at the service of people. When we are in contact with people, when we listen to them in their pain, in their suffering, we have a duty to protect them"adds the doctor. What to call into question the policy of the caregivers?
