Multiverse of Madness and madness start for Doctor Strange 2 ! The new baby from Marvel Studios approached 1.5 million spectators for its first week of operation in French theaters. On the scale of films adapted from Marvel comic books, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness signs the eleventh best start in history. And the seventh if we only take into account those produced within the framework of the MCU.
Already the eighth biggest hit of 2022 in France, Sam Raimi’s film will have no trouble getting the score of its predecessor (just under 2 million viewers). And the absence of major competitors until Top Gun Maverick’s release on May 25 may allow it to join or even surpass The Batman at the top of the annual box office.
Magic, there is also on the second step of the podium. For the master of the mystical arts precedes the sorcerers of the Fantastic Beasts 3, which is holding up well, with nearly 2.5 million admissions since April 13. But who will have trouble reaching the bar of 4, like the two previous games. Faced with the juggernaut Doctor Strange 2, which took almost everything in its path, two novelties were not unworthy: worn by Michèle Laroque and MB14, Tenor enters directly in fourth position, with a score close to that of What have we all done to God? on this week; and Passengers of the night enters the Top 10 with the best average per copy after that of the Marvel film.
Finally, note the fine performance of SEGPA, which is holding up very well with only 21% less admissions compared to the previous week, and even has the luxury of gaining two places in the rankings. Dunces, yes, but not at the box office.
