Doctor Strange 2: release date, cast, plot … everything we already know

While Spider-Man: No Way Home is a hit in theaters around the world, fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe already have their eyes on the next film. Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness will be released in May 2022 and several elements are already known.

If you’ve been to see the last Spider-Man, you’ve certainly seen the post-credits scene dedicated to the second Doctor Strange movie. It must be said that Marvel studios have made a habit of teasing their next films at the time of the credits. In this specific case, it is not only a scene but a trailer that was unveiled to the fans who remained until the end of the session.

A deliberately chaotic teaser

After watching this famous trailer, the tracks left are rather blurry. What we understand is that after creating breaches between the universes, Steven Strange realizes that he has jeopardized the balance of the multiverse. The wizard will then ask for help from Wanda Maximoff to help him correct his mistakes.

We can see the arrival of new characters in the MCU. Miss America, played by Xochitl Gomez, and Dark Strange, appeared in the What If series this summer.

Fan theories

While the teaser is only a week old, the theories about Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness are already swarming the Internet.

According to these theories, Wanda will be the real antagonist of the film. First called in to help Steven Strange in his quest, the Scarlet Witch will become an enemy ready to jeopardize the balance of the multiverse to find her children, lost at the end of the Wanda Vision series. With the acquisition of the Darkhold (or Book of the Damned), a book made of black magic, Wanda could sink into a certain madness, translatable by madness in English.

Cast and release date

This second opus, dedicated to the powerful wizard, is directed by Sam Raimi. This film marks his return to the Marvel universe since it was he who made the Spiderman trilogy with Tobey Maguire.

Heading the bill, we will therefore find Bennedict Cumberbatch (Steven Strange) and Elizabeth Olsen (Wanda Maximoff).

Also in the cast are Bennedict Wong (Wong), Chiwetel Ejiofor (Mordo), Xochitl Gomez (Miss America) and Rachel McAdams (Christine Palmer).

Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness will be released on May 4, 2022 in France and will be the fifth film in Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
