Doctor Who: the cult series is already replacing its main actress for its season 15

Ncuti Gatwa is set to star with a new travel partner in season 15 of Doctor Who. Our colleagues from Daily Mirror we learn that actress Millie Gibson is leaving the cult series after only one season aboard the Tardis, and will be replaced by Varada Seethu.

Goodbye, Ruby Sunday…

Fans of Doctor Who met Gibson’s character, Ruby Sunday, in the Christmas special episode that aired during the holidays on the Disney+ streaming platform. But it seems that his adventures with the Doctor now played by the actor of Sex Education are not of short duration.

The decision to replace Gibson was made last year by the showrunner of the series, Russell T Davies, after filming for season 14 which will be broadcast next May.

The character of Ruby Sunday participates in the eight episodes of this upcoming new season, but will therefore not be in the special Christmas 2024 episode which will be revealed at the end of the year. In addition, she should only appear in three episodes of season 15, in order to complete her journey alongside the Doctor.

…And welcome Varada Seethu!

It is the actress Varada Seethu who will then go on an adventure with the Time Lord. Appeared in the series Star Wars: Andor And Strike Backthe actress has already started filming the series, production of which is currently taking place in Cardiff, Wales.

However, she will not be in the Christmas episode planned for the end of the year either, since the Mirror underlines that it is very likely that a guest actor or actress will therefore opposite Ncuti Gatwa for the occasion.

The fact that Gibson has already been replaced will perhaps surprise some fans of Doctor Whoespecially newcomers who were won over by his introduction in the Christmas 2023 episode, but this is not the first time that a companion does not stay in the series for long.

If Jenna Coleman accompanied the Doctor for four years, other comrades only lent him a hand for one year, like Pearl Mackie in the guise of Bill Potts in season 10.

Season 14 of Doctor Who arrives on the Disney+ streaming platform next May.
