Dodge to give up V8 combustion engine in favor of all-electric

Dodge, a subsidiary of Stellantis, will abandon the V8 combustion engine in favor of electric motors for the next generations of its Charger and Challenger models.

The American manufacturer Dodge, now a subsidiary of Stellantis, will give up its mythical Hemi V8 combustion engines in favor of purely electric motors for the next generation of its Charger and Challenger models. Their launch is scheduled for 2024.

The news was announced by our colleagues at Motor1 following an exchange of emails with a Dodge spokesperson. According to the site, the latter has confirmed that the next generation platform will lose not only the V8 Hemi, but also all internal combustion engines. “The Hemi in this platform, as well as this platform, will disappear. The next generation will be BEV“, said the spokesperson. The platform he was referring to is the LX platform, which has been in service since 2005.

Dodge plans to launch its first muscle car electric in 2024, as we have known since the presentation of the Stellantis electric strategy for 2021. It will normally be presented in concept car form in the coming weeks.

During its strategic presentation, Stellantis emphasized that electrification would not take the form of a universal plan that would apply without distinction. “Each of the group’s 14 iconic brands is mobilized to offer the best 100% electric offer while strengthening its DNA“, had made known the manufacturer. Thus, with regard to Dodge, the future slogan of the mark is “Tear Up the Streets, Not the Planet“which could be translated as”Tear up the streets, not the planet“.

The stakes are high for the Stellantis group, since it plans to build two large battery factories in the United States (one in partnership with LG, the other with Samsung), with the aim of multiplying its sources of supply as it has set itself the goal of reaching 5 million electric vehicles sold by 2030. Stellantis is thus seeking to catch up with companies such as Ford or General Motors, which have been more quick to go electric. Dodge, Jeep and Chrysler are the main American brands with which Stellantis intends to achieve its objectives.
