Does being slim really make you happy?
Everyone defines happiness differently, of course. But is a slim figure a prerequisite for being really happy? We asked our community about it.
How are body weight and personal happiness actually related? Sure, a figure that you can wear almost anything, that does not cause health problems and with which we feel completely at ease, cannot harm us when we are happy, right? But how important is the figure really? Is it so much about your own appearance that other factors in life take a back seat? According to a study by the University of Wisconsin, at least around 93 percent of women engage with their bodies every day. So it definitely sounds like we all focus on it on a regular basis. We once asked the community: Does being slim really make you happy? Here are a few selected answers.

“Since I’m (still) a fat man, I can say: I wasn’t unhappy in that sense before. But I got diabetes as a result and that made itself felt. Every piece of chocolate gave me a guilty conscience. When it came down to it I went for insulin injections, I had a hole in my retina, I pulled the rip cord. And to be honest, as much as my husband loves me, my excess weight bothered him a lot. I have already lost a lot of weight and also do sports, go hiking etc. . and yes, I feel / am much happier. I can move around better, got rid of my pills and overall a lot has improved. “

“I also find that weight has an influence on the feel-good factor. It may also be due to the fact that the body is then physically well and that in turn has a positive effect on the psyche.”

“For years I thought that I shouldn’t be happy as long as I’m a pug, and that automatically at least 50 percent of my life would be totally sunshine if I were only thin. (The other 50 percent were the ones with only chocolate At some point I realized that I was pretty happy because everything that could be endured with chocolate had just gone. Then I lost weight, and that was nice because I dared to do a lot of things at once that I didn’t dare to do as a pug, and because total strangers were much nicer to me. It also had costs, of course. Has everything. But luck was there first. “

“It’s probably the same with being slim as it is with money and many other things: the more you see yourself removed from a desired goal, the more you might think that reaching that goal would make you happy. But that happiness would probably be anyway don’t last long. You would get used to it quickly and look for something else to strive for. “

“I think it’s like money. That alone doesn’t make you happy, but if you have to worry all the time about how to pay the rent, that’s bad.”

“Perhaps someone for whom being slim is a big goal is initially happy for a while after they have been achieved. Until the reality shock comes: Happy forever, that’s not enough. If you miss something longer – love, job, nature can also be Then you have it and you realize that you have to look after it, be aware of it, etcpp. And whoever has to do a lot to be slim pays a price ….. Although I do I think that a healthy diet and sufficient exercise are not only good for your figure, but also for your quality of life. Just caste, counting calories, for example, that would not necessarily be something for me. “
As you can see, there is no one definitive answer to the question of whether being slim makes you happy. If the kilos are accompanied by health problems, then the conclusion is probably pretty clear – because what is it called? Health is not everything, but without health everything is nothing. And anyone who has to lose weight on medical advice should definitely follow this recommendation. No chocolate in the world is worth getting sick.
Otherwise it is simply a question of: Do I feel comfortable with my weight and would I like to lose weight because it bothers ME or the OTHERS? Because in the end it all depends on what you want for yourself. A feel-good weight is therefore highly individual and not linked to a BMI table.
