Regardless of the sales figures, it is one of the favorites among electric cars: the electrically powered Fiat 500. But loving it is not enough, it also has to sell – and it no longer does that on its own. The result: another production stop!
After the parent company Stellantis closed the Mirafiori plant in the Turin district of the same name from the end of September to the beginning of October, the production lines are scheduled to stand still again from October 19th to November 3rd. A Stellantis spokesman explained this to Automotive News with weak demand. 2,400 employees are affected – and even further vehicle series: Maserati Granturismo, Ghibli, Levante and Quattroporte. According to the industry journal’s report, Maserati production had already been interrupted for 58 days in the first half of 2023. Also because of sales problems. The Fiat 500 Electric is one of the few electric small cars. Its strengths do not lie in its long range, but in its characteristics as a friendly city car. Depending on the battery size, it offers a range of 190 to 322 kilometers in the combined WLTP cycle. Its electric motor delivers 70 kW/95 hp. Base price around 30,000 euros, less funding.
