Does Putin want power in Kiev?: Ukrainians reject allegations of London’s coup

Does Putin want power in Kiev?
Ukrainians reject allegations of London’s coup

It is an unusually direct warning from the British government: Moscow is planning to install a ruler in Ukraine by the grace of Putin. London also mentions the name of the potential governor. But the Ukrainian rejects all allegations and brings a new theory into play.

Following an unprecedented warning by Britain about Kremlin interference in Ukraine, a key figure named by London has strongly denied the allegations. Former Ukrainian MP Yevgeny Murayev, named by London as a suspected governor that Moscow wants to install in Ukraine, called the allegations “stupid and absurd” in the Telegraph.

“If I haven’t missed anything, they have [Russland] another candidate and don’t hide it either. I am a patriot of my country,” the Ukrainian told the newspaper. Murayev has been on a Russian sanctions list since 2018. “It’s not particularly logical. I am banned from Russia,” he also told Sunday newspaper The Observer.

The British Foreign Office said on Saturday evening that the government had information “that the Russian government is trying to establish a pro-Russian leadership in Kiev while it considers whether to invade and occupy Ukraine. ” Murayev was mentioned as a possible candidate for the leadership position in the government in Kiev.

Moscow then accused London of “disinformation”. The background to the Foreign Ministry’s statement is the serious tension in the Ukraine conflict. The United States in particular fears an invasion of the neighboring country given the high Russian troop presence on the border with Ukraine. Moscow rejects this almost every day. Britain had already sent light anti-tank weapons to Ukraine, drawing criticism from the Kremlin for doing so.
