Does the department go to the FDP ?: Greens would apparently forego the Ministry of Finance

Does the department go to the FDP?
Greens would apparently forego the Ministry of Finance

Lindner or Habeck? When it comes to the Treasury Department’s question, the answer could be a little closer. According to a report, the Greens should no longer make the department a condition for joining a traffic light coalition. Instead, there are six other request ministries.

The Greens apparently no longer insist on the Ministry of Finance. This is what the “Frankfurter Allgemeine ZeitungAccording to this, the group of ten green negotiators agreed on six ministries, which should be claimed in a possible traffic light cabinet. These should include the Foreign Office as well as transport, the environment, agriculture, family and transformation – finance and internal affairs were missing on the List, but it is unlikely that the Greens would get more than five ministries.

One does not want to let the traffic light talks fail because of the Ministry of Finance, reports the FAZ with reference to green negotiating circles. Therefore it is a possible scenario to hand over the department. In the course of the traffic light talks, the topic for a long time was who will be finance minister: Greens co-leader Robert Habeck or FDP leader Christian Lindner. Talks on division into departments are still pending with the SPD and FDP, and the last word has not yet been spoken within the Greens, it continues.

Personal details already clarified?

The party had previously stressed several times that it considered the Ministry of Finance to be indispensable. It is central to enforcing climate demands. The Greens assumed that around 50 billion euros in investments per year would be necessary for climate protection. That would have taken the Treasury Department.

As the FAZ reports, the Greens had long been concerned that the FDP would be humiliated into the coalition without the Ministry of Finance. As a result, one sees the stability of a possible traffic light coalition at risk. That is why the party is concentrating primarily on key green issues. Personnel issues have not yet been discussed, but according to the FAZ it is already clear that Habeck will now be environment minister and co-boss Annalena Baerbock foreign minister, parliamentary group leader Anton Hofreiter transport minister and parliamentary group leader Katrin Göring-Eckardt possibly family minister.

The deadline for the 22 working groups of the coalition negotiations ended on Wednesday at 6 p.m. Hardly anything leaked out of the conversations. In the past few days, however, the Greens have shown themselves to be dissatisfied with the progress, especially on the issue of climate protection. As the FAZ reports, the party could be paid for the resignation of the finance ministry there with further concessions.
