Does the home office rule remain ?: Lindner wants to take action against “part-time trap”

Will the home office rule remain?
Lindner wants to take action against “part-time trap”

It is gradually becoming clear which projects Federal Finance Minister Lindner could tackle in his first hundred days in office. He announced that he would take first steps with regard to the problem of “part-time traps” at the beginning of the new year.

Federal Finance Minister Christian Lindner has announced that it will make tax returns easier and that it will take steps to combat poor conditions in the world of work, which often affect women. The FDP politician told the Funke media group that he had the issue of part-time traps on his radar. “I will approach the federal states at the beginning of the new year and promote a quick solution.”

In the coalition agreement, the traffic light parties stipulated that they wanted to prevent “mini-jobs from being abused as a substitute for regular employment or being part-time, especially for women.” Compliance with the applicable labor law for mini-jobs will be monitored more closely, according to the paper.

A part-time trap also applies if employees are no longer allowed to increase hours after a while in the company – because they have not contractually agreed to return to full-time after a phase of more intensive childcare, for example. Or even if they not only work less, but also earn less per hour, as they tend to be assigned tasks without responsibility.

The FDP set clear accents for equality and make a very progressive social policy, Lindner told the Funke newspapers. “For example, when designing the tax brackets in favor of women.” According to the coalition agreement, family taxation is to be further developed in such a way that partnership responsibility and economic independence are strengthened with regard to all types of families.

“The tax return has to be easier.”

In addition, Lindner announced easing the tax return: “The tax return must be simpler.” According to the will of the minister, data that the authorities already have should in future be offered pre-filled so that citizens do not have to search for every single piece of information in their files. “We are now taking the necessary steps to put this relief into practice as quickly as possible.”

Lindner was also open with regard to permanent tax deductibility for the home office: “I think it is conceivable that we will turn the exception rule into a permanent rule,” says Lindner. You have to keep watching. Many employees wanted more self-determination, but many also preferred to work in the office. The current regulation is limited to the period of the pandemic.
