With the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra, the manufacturer is beefing up its game and directly competing with theiPad Pro
. Let’s take a tour of the owner and see together if the new Tablet
Samsung has all the arguments to rub shoulders with Apple’s high-end slate.

Samsung took advantage of its Galaxy Unpacked event to unveil both the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22 Ultra but also its latest range of Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 tablets. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra naturally made a strong impression as the manufacturer has gone all out to offer a premium experience to its users.

Design and screen: XXL format

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra does not lie on its name with a 14.6-inch screen, one of the largest memory tiles seen on a touch pad. Next to it, the iPad Pro passes for a small player with a screen of “only” 12.9 inches.

Regarding screen technology, Samsung has opted for a 2,960 x 1,848 pixel AMOLED panel with an adaptive refresh rate of 120 Hz, a technology perfectly mastered by the Korean manufacturer which promises infinite contrast and very high color rendering. shimmering. Apple’s iPad Pro (2021) skips OLED and ushers in the arrival of mini-LED technology. This has several thousand independently managed zones to provide better contrast while maintaining excellent brightness.

As a result of its giant screen, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra is a little heavier than the iPad Pro with a weight of 726 grams against 684 grams for the Apple device, but this overweight remains very light and should not be too much. feel in hand.

Both devices also offer a connector to connect a keyboard / trackpad and use the tablet in the same way as a computer. They are both also compatible with a stylus, with the only difference that Samsung integrates it into its tablet by default, while Apple only offers its accessory as a paid option (135 euros).

For biometric recognition, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra chooses a fingerprint sensor under the screen while the iPad Pro benefits from Face ID facial recognition.

Performance and connectivity: top of the line, with a small lead for Samsung

Who says premium tablet says top performance. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra therefore features Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC, an octa-core chip with a maximum frequency of 2.99 GHz. The iPad Pro benefits from an Apple M1 processor, the same chip at work in the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro.

The default storage is 128 GB for both models, but the advantage is for Samsung which also offers a micro SD port to expand storage up to 1 TB, where the iPad Pro (2021) only has variants up to 2 TB, offered at prices close to 2,000 euros.

The two slates also offer 5G options to connect on the move, but the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra also has a Wi-Fi 6E chip, the latest wireless standard, when the iPad Pro has to settle for a simple Wi-Fi 6 chip. Anyway, both models offer the best for ultra-fast downloads.

Camera: very capable tablets for video calls, less useful for simple shots

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra incorporates a 13 megapixel sensor on the back as well as a 6 megapixel ultra wide-angle sensor. For its part, the iPad Pro also offers a dual sensor with a 12-megapixel wide-angle and a 10-megapixel ultra-wide-angle, combined with a LiDAR sensor.

The real interest of these two slates, however, lies more in their front sensors, which allow video calls to be made. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra has a dual 12-megapixel wide-angle and ultra-wide-angle sensor when the iPad only has a single 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle sensor.

Both devices also natively offer automatic face tracking during the call, but the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra has an advantage: its centered camera in landscape mode, which allows you to be perfectly centered where the iPad Pro, whose camera is on the top edge of the device, gives you the impression of looking left or right all the time.

Battery: between 8 and 14 hours of use, depending on your usage

The battery of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra is 11,200 mAh. Apple does not give any information on the capacity of its accumulator.

For autonomy, Samsung promises eight hours of web browsing in Wi-Fi and 14 hours of video playback when its competitor remains fixed on a versatile autonomy of 10 hours, which we can confirm in our test.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra: the iPad Pro killer?

With the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra, the Korean brand does not simply intend to follow its eternal Californian rival, but to offer the definitive version of the touch pad.

Gigantic screen, stylus included, technical sheet that only offers the best of the best in current mobile technology, don’t throw away any more, this device is a concentrate of innovations to adapt to all users.

If the hardware already catches our eye and if we can’t wait to get our hands on it, only one point bothers us and it concerns Android. As we know, Samsung now offers a first-class user experience with gestures adapted to the tablet format or even the DeX mode which transforms OneUI, the manufacturer’s overlay, into a real small mobile PC.

Unfortunately, applications adapted to the tablet format are rare on the Google OS and if a Microsoft Office user will immediately know how to find his children, many software are little or badly adapted to devices over 10 inches, where the iPad is several steps ahead with a very extensive App Store.

If you’re looking for the best possible tablet for consuming content or browsing the web, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra is probably the best choice available today. If you are also looking for your next computer for work at home and on the move, we advise you to find out about the different software you use on a daily basis and to try the device before making your final choice.
