Does Vinted scam consumers? A complaint filed

The UFC-Que Choisir association is suing the second-hand online clothing platform Vinted for “deceptive commercial practice”.

This Tuesday, May 18, 2021, UFC-What to Choose announced on its site to sue Vinted, the second-hand sales giant. The reason ? “Vinted invoices on each transaction, under the tendentious name of ‘Buyer protection’, a so-called optional commission and the amount of which only appears at the time of payment “, explains the association that considers this “as a deceptive trade practice.” “This commission is presented by Vinted as optional, but it is actually mandatory. No checkbox has been provided for consumers to be able to choose this option “, adds the association.

She applied to the Judicial Court of Paris to request reimbursement of these costs from consumers. “unduly invoiced since 2016” and sanction the platform. According to UFC-Que Choisir, millions of consumers would be affected: “5 million unique daily visitors to the application are presented with a fait accompli: the option is not one.”

Vinted, which has 37 million members in Europe, generates phenomenal sums thanks to this invoicing. And the Lithuanian platform is now valued at 3.5 billion euros.
