DOFUS 2 Unity: Astrub revealed by Logan in a few cards

The Unity project had been under silence for a few months but with the start of the school year, Logan reveals a little more about the porting of 2.0. This one is progressing very well and actually offers a recreation of the Dofus experience!

DOFUS 2 Unity: Astrub gameplay published by Logan

Last I heard, Dofus 2 Unity was preparing for a demo for Japan Expo. Unfortunately, due to timing problems, the port was absent, leaving Cire Momore on the classic version of the game. However, for the 18th anniversary of the game this September 1st, Logan posted a first real gameplay. It may not seem like much, with only a few Astrub cards, but behind the images, the machine is impressive.

First, to echo Logan’s claims, the Unity client now seems able to communicate with 2.0 servers alongside the usual Flash/Action Script 3 client. This is an extremely important step, the network often being a significant part of a game.

Second, the recreation is nearly perfect except for a few 7 differences. The classes and spells seem present, the cards are indeed identical, the animations are almost complete… We can obviously note disparities, like the interactive elements a little “bleached” but apart from these small details, the work deserves a hat down.

Finally, it is impossible not to mention the performance. Dofus seems as fluid as Dofus Touch, if not more. Maps load quickly and with an uninterrupted crossfade animation. According to Logan’s information, this result does not even take into account future optimizations and is only a “raw” example. Something to reassure multi-account players, worried about a possible increase in consumption on the performance side when the new client arrives.

If you missed an episode, do not hesitate to consult our article summarizing all the information about the port of Dofus 2 under Unity.

And then ?

A video and an image do not show all of Dofus. Indeed, there are still many facets to wear and whose progress we do not know: Quests, Combats, Animations, Classes, …. Additionally, the team seems to be planning other, more comprehensive interface changes as evidenced by the game’s producer in the answers. The priority until then was the comfort of play. Thus, in the future, a complete overhaul of the “UI” (User Interface) is in the cards. After all, a port isn’t just a recopy (even if that rhymes).
