Manchester City is mercilessly dismantling relegation candidate Bournemouth in the English Premier League. A Belgian stands out with four goal assists. Erling Haaland has to go down after 45 minutes. Erik ten Hag is getting some breathing room at Manchester United.
Manchester City has temporarily stormed to the top of the Premier League table – but an injury to top scorer Erling Haaland dampened the triple winner’s great joy after the 6:1 (3:0) against AFC Bournemouth. The 23-year-old had to be substituted at halftime due to injury. It is unclear whether Haaland will be available in the Champions League against Young Boys Bern on Tuesday.
The attacker “turned his ankle. We didn’t want to take any risks because he didn’t feel well,” said team manager Pep Guardiola. Haaland will “maybe be back on Tuesday, but maybe not until next Sunday. Hopefully that won’t be a big problem.” City will play against Chelsea next Sunday.
Against Bournemouth, Jeremy Doku, Bernardo Silva and Manuel Akanji took a secure lead in just seven minutes in the first half. Phil Foden, who came on for Haaland, Silva again and Nathan Ake made things even clearer. It was City’s fourth success in a row in the league.
A little breathing space for ten Hag
Meanwhile, local rivals Manchester United secured a much-needed victory thanks to a last-minute goal. The ailing traditional English club happily won 1-0 (0-0) at Fulham FC. Captain Bruno Fernandes scored in stoppage time against Fulham’s German keeper Bernd Leno.
