Renowned for generating multidimensional sound, Dolby Atmos now equips more than 300 cinemas in France, and is gaining ground both in cinemas and in the hearts of the French.
Since the famous surround sound, Dolby Atmos sound is undoubtedly the greatest advancement. If you have ever had the chance to see a film, at the cinema, in a room equipped with technology, you have undoubtedly been able to measure the difference. The equipment itself may be expensive for cinemas, but Dolby Atmos is convincing more and more cinemas, since we have just passed the milestone of 300 equipped cinemas in France. And we can understand why.
French cinemas are fond of Dolby Atmos
Above, behind, to the sides… With Dolby Atmos, sound moves all around you. This is the promise kept by the American firm Dolby, which has just announced this Thursday, May 2, 2024, that it has crossed the threshold of 300 equipped cinemas in France. 288 are in Dolby Atmos and 12 in Dolby Cinema to be exact.
It is now possible to enjoy this sound in 179 cities across the country (Paris, Lyon, Marseille are among them), which makes France the leading country in Europe in this area, and raises it to fourth place in the world. In detail, we find Dolby Atmos sound in 135 independent cinemas, the best represented. 85 screens spread across 48 CGR cinemas are equipped with them. The Pathé Cinemas (38 screens spread over 30 sites), Mégarama, CinémaPlanet, Cinéville and even Kinepolis also host several screens in different cinemas.
Cinephiles have already been able to discover 2,950 films released in Dolby Atmos, including Oppenheimer, barbie, Wonka, Dune And A second part recently, or Planet of the Apes: The New Kingdom in the coming days. Whether in the cinema or at home, Dolby Atmos has become a real argument of choice.
Dolby Atmos at home requires equipment
To offer total immersion to spectators in dark rooms, Dolby Atmos uses up to 64 speakers, including those located above the head. The technology offers ultra-precise placement of sound objects throughout the room, which elevates the level of the experience. Each sound has its own characteristics, whether loud or quiet, powerful or muffled, precise or diffuse.
At home too, you may be a fan of Dolby Atmos. There is no shortage of compatible soundbars and televisions. In its housing, the audio format offers a real vertical dimension to the sound, thanks to its three-dimensional aspect (height, width, depth)
In addition to your TV and the soundbar, Dolby Atmos offers all its immersive capabilities accompanied by speakers, speakers which will help create an surround effect, as well as a subwoofer. All this has a cost, of course, but the comfort is then absolute.
