Dometic DrawBar: the wine cellar that fits in a drawer

2

Wine lovers short on space can rejoice in the latest creation from Swedish company Dometic Home. The DrawBar, that’s its name, is a wine cellar that can be installed in place of a standard kitchen drawer.

Not everyone has the space to install a wine cellar in their kitchen, but Dometic Home’s latest novelty might just be a game-changer. A company of Swedish origin, Dometic Home offers refrigeration solutions for the home and outdoors. We thus find in its catalog coolers, sideboards, but also wine cellars and, recently, a certain DrawBar. Contraction of drawer words — drawerin English — and bar, it is no more and no less than a wine cellar the size of a kitchen drawer.

Small format, but limited functions

The glass front is not the only one available with the DrawBar.

Offered with a glass, stainless steel or customizable front, the DrawBar is 60 cm wide and is supposed to adapt to standard kitchen units. Inside, several technologies from the brand’s wine cellars have been brought together, starting with compression refrigeration. Five temperature presets, between 5 and 17°C, are provided to bring white, red and sparkling wines to their optimum drinking temperature. A “humidity control tray” is further mentioned.

On the other hand, no anti-vibration system is mentioned. The DrawBar therefore seems ill-suited to the aging of wine, which risks losing some of its taste and olfactory qualities over the – numerous – jolts that the kitchen units may undergo.

The DrawBar can obviously accommodate fewer bottles than a cabinet.

The Dometic Home drawer is of course limited by its format. Only five bottles — “champagne riesling”, specifies the manufacturer — can be stored there, and no separation is obviously planned to create zones that it would be possible to adjust to different temperatures. It is therefore preferable to place wines of the same type there. There remains, of course, the possibility of installing several… hoping that the price of this DrawBar will not be too high. For the time being, neither price nor date of availability have yet been announced for the French market.
