Donald and Melania Trump, a stronger couple than they seem? “She is both independent and loyal”

“I was born in a picturesque country, Slovenia. In my opinion, becoming an American citizen was like the sunrise : I felt an immense sense of pride.” It is with these words that Melania Trump chose to begin her speech held at the National Archives on December 15, to celebrate the naturalization of five people. Indeed, the former First Lady born in Novo Mesto, a town in southeastern Slovenia, obtained a permanent resident card in the United States in 2001 then American nationality in 2006. A naturalization that her husband, Donald Trump, tends to forget when he attacks immigrants and undocumented immigrants at rallies, accusing them of “contaminate American blood”as reported Paris Match in its columns this Thursday, December 28. However, the former model knows how to stand up to her husband and even guide him in his political career, if we are to believe the confidences of his lawyer Michael Wildes.

In addition to helping her and her parents Viktor Knavs and Amalija obtain American citizenship, Michael Wildes, an immigration lawyer, remained a close friend of Donald Trump’s wife, “without regard to his political opinions”. According to him, Melania Trump is indeed far from being a “Extremist Make America Great Again” : “I’m not a Trumpist and I don’t hesitate to tell him. We laugh about our differences. She’s a pragmatist who has a very balanced approach to politics and leadership. We agree that immigration is an integral part of America’s DNA.” he explains to our colleagues. And to add: Melania is both independent and loyal, her relationship is very solid. She has a lot of respect for her husband and his ambitions.”

Michael Wildes is not the only one to have noticed the iron fist hidden in Melania Trump’s velvet glove. Brigitte Macron also declared in November Paris Match : “Melania Trump is very sweet. But she has influence over her husband. When, at a dinner, she taps her watch, he understands that it is time to go.” So, the former president of the United States would have followed his wife’s advice to choose his vice-president in 2016. According to journalist Mary Jordan, she advised him to take Mike Pence rather than Chris Christie and Newt Gingrich, because, in her own words, “he is the only one who will be satisfied with the position”. She would also have advised Donald Trump to sell the success of the operation against Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi at the end of October 2019 by talking about the dog Conan, who led the soldiers to the terrorist’s hideout.

Melania Trump spends a lot of time away from Donald Trump

It seems the former First Lady has found her own rhythm with her husband. Mary Jordan had in fact revealed to Guardian in June 2020 that Melania Trump spends most of her time separated from her husband. A relationship “unorthodox” according to her: “I don’t know any couples who spends so much time apart. They are often in the same building, but far from each other.”, she noted, specifying that they would not share the same bedroom. A daily life which seems, in the end, to be the key to the longevity of their relationship: “They are perfectly happy to be separated”, Mary Jordan continued. What about their political disagreements? “The way she shows that she’s angry at Trump is for walking away, for being invisible, and he doesn’t like that. He loves the very beautiful young woman at his side”explained the journalist.
