Great sadness for Donald Sutherland: The Hollywood legend died at the age of 88 “after a long illness”, as US media reports.

The well-known Hollywood star Donald Sutherland (1935-2024) is dead. He died on Thursday (20 June) “after a long illness” in Miami in the US state of Florida, according to the Creative Artists Agency confirmed to the US industry magazine “Deadline”. He was 88 years old.

From “MASH” to “The Hunger Games”

Sutherland has appeared in around 200 film and television roles over the course of his 60-year career. His earliest successes included the war satire “MASH” by Robert Altman (1925-2006) and the thriller “Klute”, in which he played alongside Jane Fonda (86). Sutherland’s performance in Nicolas Roeg’s (1928-2018) Venice classic “When the Gondolas Wear Black” will also remain unforgettable.

The father of “24” star Kiefer Sutherland (57) remained a busy actor in Hollywood throughout his life. A younger audience will probably know him from his portrayal of President Coriolanus Snow in the “Hunger Games” film series. In 2017, Sutherland received an honorary Oscar. He was married three times and fathered a total of five children.
