A joke that ultimately backfired. In the midst of the campaign for the next American presidential elections in November 2024, Donald Trump does not miss an opportunity to throw a few barbs at his Democratic competitor, Joe Biden. This was particularly the case during his meeting in Detroit, a city in Michigan, on Friday June 14. During his speech to the right-wing group Turning Point Action, the man who is involved in several legal cases once again attacked the health of the current tenant of the White House. Indeed, Melania Trump’s husband invited his rival to take a cognitive test, as he himself had done during his mandate.
When discussing his own results of this test, supposed to identify the first signs of memory loss, Donald Trump then made a huge blunder. In a video sequence broadcast on Newsmax, and relayed by our colleagues from BFM TV this Monday, June 17, the real estate mogul got confused by mentioning the name of his doctor. “Doc Ronny Johnson. Does everyone know Texas Congressman Ronny Johnson? He was the White House physician, and he said I was the healthiest president, in his opinion, in history, so I really liked him.”, he said to the assembly. According to certain tabloids, including CNN and The Guardian, Donald Trump actually wanted to talk about Doctor Ronny Jackson, “White House doctor during part of his presidency” recalls BFMTV. An error which was massively repeated on social networks.

For the 80th anniversary of the Landings, Joe Biden did not hesitate to take a break in the middle of the campaign to be able to travel to Normandy. On June 6, the President of the United States and his wife Jill Biden attended a commemoration ceremony at the American cemetery in Colleville-sur-Mer. During this celebration, a sequence of the 81-year-old politician went around the Internet. The reason ? After exchanging a handshake with his somewhat disoriented counterpart Emmanuel Macron, Joe Biden seemed to have some difficulty sitting down.
On social networks, this sequence got Internet users talking a lot, worried about the state of health of Joe Biden. “Even veterans who are mostly 100 years old are in better shape than Grandpa Joe”, “Given his age, he can’t stand up for long”, we could for example read on X (formerly Twitter, editor’s note). However, the video, in its entirety, broadcast on news channels, actually shows that Joe Biden rushed to his seat before realizing that it is not the right time.
