Donald Trump’s Twitter alternative is here. But to many it seems more like a quickly cobbled together website from 1999.

As usual, the former US President Donald Trump (74) announced shortly after his banishment from Twitter and Facebook that he would launch his own “communication platform”. Correspondingly, his critics and supporters were looking forward to the day when his in-house Twitter replacement would be launched. That day (May 5, 2021) has now come, but with “From the Desk of Donald J. Trump” Joe Biden’s (78) predecessor in office earns two things above all: scorn and ridicule.

The visionary Donald Trump

“SPOILER: This ‘new communication platform’ is a ‘website'”, a user on Twitter is amazed. In general, one wonders there how modern Trump is. “The year 1999 called” and would like to have his website back. And in the spirit of Trump’s favorite saying it says elsewhere: “Make MySpace Great Again!”

The invention of the blog

For some, the side comes like breaking news: “74-year-old man starts a blog” – a picture of angry Abraham “Grandpa” Simpson should of course not be missing. Based on Trump’s extensive Twitter past writes another: “So it’s basically a blog for someone whose mind is only 280 characters long.”

The basic tenor: Once again Donald Trump spat big tones and once again it was just hot air. But how a Twitter user writes so aptly: “People also call two cans and a long cord a telephone.” In any case, it seems like the big effort not to have flowed into the website: “My seven-year-old son could create a competition blog for Trump’s. But at least his would allow people to post comments.”

The simple form of the page also raises the not entirely legal question in some how complex then the security precautions could be: “How hard would it be for an enterprising hacker to have a little fun with this site?”

With all the fun, however, it must also be noted that Trump now again has the opportunity to spread his messages via Facebook and Twitter through “From the Desk of Donald J. Trump”. Because share buttons have been inserted for each of Trump’s contributions for both platforms. Instead of tweeting them himself, he lets them retweet in the future – and his following still has enough loyal members.
