Between 2007 and 2017, then during a meeting in 2020, “Fais pas ci, faire pas ça” revolutionized the face of French comedy on the TV side. If you didn’t follow everything well or if your memory challenges you, we tell you the end of the series.
Warning, spoilers. The following article reveals key plot points of “Don’t do this, don’t do that” as well as its ending.
It was on September 8, 2007 that we fell under the spell of France 2’s new family series recounting the simple little lives of two radically opposed families: the conservatives Lepic facing the progressive sores Bouley.
Do not ci, do not do that, whose title and credits pay homage to the famous song by Jacques Dutronc, has since become an emblem of French television, which made its audience laugh and even cry, marking it forever. The show, created by Anne Giafferi and Thierry Bizot, also won the Best Series Prize at the Festival des Créations Télévisuelles de Luchon in 2009.
Ten years after its debut, on February 22, 2017, the hit series, which at its peak attracted no less than 4,940,000 viewers, made its (first) farewell to the small screen with episode 6 of its season 9, entitled “ We will grow old together!”.
Three years after the end of the show, however, the Lepics and the Bouleys will return to our screens for a Christmas TV movie of nearly 2 hours, entitled “Will there be Christmas at Christmas?”, taking place before the events of the previous “final” episode. And the public is there: 5,485,000 spectators will watch the chapter broadcast on December 18, 2020, still on France 2.
Thus, the series had two different endings, one in the future, the other in the past, and we summarize both for you please!
DESTINIES OF ALL KINDS
In the last two episodes of the series, we are in 2027. Nicolas Hulot is a President very proud of his ecological achievements and the reality is increasingly virtual. The Lepics and the Bouleys, grizzled, have been angry for 2 years, following the separation of their respective children, Christophe (Yaniss Lespert) and Tiphaine (Alexandra Gentil).
Valérie Bouley (Isabelle Gélinas) and Renaud Lepic (Guillaume De Tonquédec), who discovered common memories – they notably experienced their first love affairs together – kiss each other more than 45 years later. At the same time, Fabienne (Valérie Bonneton) and Denis (Bruno Salomone) both go through an identity crisis and in turn exchange a passionate kiss. The friendly couples eventually reunite, discussing these “friendly” misbehaviors and their forever-bonded families.

Side children, Christophe Lepic is therefore separated from Tiphaine Bouley since he learned not to be the father of Kim (Simon Quesemand). He now lives with a new companion, Aminata (Annabelle Lengronne), mother of his latest child. Christophe and Tiphaine remain united around their child, a true symbol of the “Boulpic” union.
Everything is fine with the Lepic sisters as well. Charlotte (Canelle Carré-Cassaigne) is married to a contemporary dancer and mother of two, and the ever-independent Soline (Tiphaine Haas) grows closer to her father who named his newest tap after her.

Eliot Bouley (Lilian Dugois) has become the author of a successful comic strip entitled Do not do this, do not do that, which is inspired by the two couples he grew up with. The youngest, Lucas Lepic (Damien Ferdel) and Salomé Bouley (Heloïse Cholley), are now teenagers, one connected, the other passionate about synchronized swimming and tired of these “old” parents.
The last scene takes place at the cinema where everyone is gathered to watch the big screen adaptation of Eliot’s comic book. End (of 2027) of Don’t do this, don’t do that.

WILL THERE BE CHRISTMAS AT CHRISTMAS?
Back in the past, at the end of 2020 please! In the special Christmas episode that will provide an interim ending to the series, the world is just recovering from Covid. Fabienne, who participates in a game on the radio, wins a trip to Las Vegas for Celine Dion’s Christmas concert. And icing on the cake: she can even meet her! As she prepares to have the Christmas of her life, she has trouble convincing Renaud, who does not want to break the sacrosanct tradition of the Lepics: New Year’s Eve with the family.

She finally convinces him but it is without counting on the rebellion of their children which promises to be terrible. Already, it was the Lepics’ turn to have Kim (now played by Maxime Attard) for Christmas. In addition, Soline returns especially for the holidays after a year in Shanghai where she landed a dream job that pays her generously. Moreover, she will not hesitate to show it throughout the episode, having everything and anything delivered.
For their part, Valérie and Denis Bouley want to impose on their offspring a sober, ecological and altruistic Christmas, to the delight of Salomé (played here by Juliane Lepoureau), an ecologist in the making whose role model is Greta Thunberg, and to the great dismay of Tiphaine and Eliot who want “normal” gifts. In short, this year, more than ever, all children are asking the same question: will there be Christmas at Christmas?

CELINE OR NOT?
But when the departing Lepics ask Bouley to take care of their children for New Year’s Eve and try to impose their rules when they won’t even be present, they hit a wall. And then their children carry out their Machiavellian plan to make them stay: to use Kim to make Fabienne feel guilty. And it works: they will finally stay.

The time has now come to agree with the Bouleys because it will obviously be necessary to celebrate New Year’s Eve together since everyone is snapping up the visit of little Kim, the last to still believe in Santa Claus. But the “Boulpic” evening promises to be particularly difficult between the dietary restrictions of the Bouleys, half vegans, half vegans, and the ecological fight of Salomé who refuses any gift that does not comply with her application detecting non-eco-responsible products.

ARRESTS IN MYSTERY
The 24th is therefore chaos. On the one hand, Denis and Renaud go in search of a fir tree to dig up to then be replanted in order to satisfy Salomé’s demands. But when they can’t find any in the forest, Denis has an idea: the municipal gardens have fir trees that they can “borrow”. Renaud protests but soon finds them illegally digging up a small Scandinavian pine… before being arrested by the police!
On the other side, Coco (Cécile Rebboah), Valérie’s friend, has an idea to help Eliot get rid of his morbid fear of the Covid: she sends the young man, without his knowledge, to recover his dose of cannabis. He completes his mission before the eyes of Coco and her mother, proud that he took off his mask and proceeded with the transaction. Coco then offers her the small dose of illicit substance before leaving… and that’s when a team of police officers – including Tiphaine! – burst in. Mother and son are embarked.

At the same time, Charlotte, who has gone to get oysters for her mother, ends up fighting a young woman for a self-service bicycle, before the two young women finally join forces to go in pursuit of a man who threw a homophobic remark at them… and it ended in a general fight! Head to the police station too!
Meanwhile, Fabienne wonders where everyone has gone but knows how to pass the time: a camera-facing rendition of Celine Dion’s ‘Pour que tu m’aimes encore’, all dressed up in her 31 in her satin dress – after getting rid of his apron and oven mitts! Thereafter, she continues to prepare the evening but not without difficulty, having to face a robot vacuum cleaner which ends up spilling – and spreading – paint all over the living room. Soline finally comes to her rescue by calling last-minute cleaners – at her expense!

At the police station, four cases are handled. Charlotte and her new accomplice end up settling amicably with the man who insulted them… and the two young women even end up together before the end of the evening! Valérie and Eliot try to explain everything to Tiphaine who ends up settling accounts with her mother. Finally, a colleague replaces her because of the conflict of interest.
As for Renaud, he has two problems to manage: in addition to his theft of a tree, he faces an accusation of sexual harassment from Christiane Potin (Isabelle Nanty) after a misunderstanding. After successfully clearing up the situation, he still has to fix his plant problem. And that’s where Denis comes in: he can save everyone if he agrees to put on his Medusa costume and sing his flagship song so that a policewoman can record it for her children. Reluctant, he ends up accepting and the show – in which Renaud participates wearing a toad costume – can begin.

Thanks to the performance, everyone is freed and can finally join the Lepic home for a late New Year’s Eve. But here again things get complicated: after yet another remark from his parents, Christophe is fed up with being considered a good-for-nothing and decides to leave with Tiphaine and Kim. He particularly resents being reminded for years that he “got stolen” Soline’s scooter when he was younger. For him, there is a difference between “being robbed” and “it was stolen from him”: it was not his fault.

Once they leave, Charlotte gets mad at her parents and tells them that they always put Christophe down and now they even do it in front of his son, which is unacceptable. Soline intervenes and finally confesses: she was the one who provided the lock key to a boy she was in love with at the time and who wanted her scooter. She let Christophe be accused for her all these years. The Lepics are shocked and Charlotte goes after her who only shows off while the others fight to get by in life. There, Soline decides to continue her confession: it was only window dressing, she was fired from her job six months ago because of the Covid and did not dare tell anyone so as not to disappoint her family. . So she pretended she had the money so as not to arouse suspicion.

…AND RECONCILIATIONS!
It’s finally the general hug when Soline asks if she can come home the time to turn around. But the embrace is interrupted so that the little Lepic family can chase after Christophe before his train leaves. Reconciliation is on the way. They will finally all go home where Soline will be able to offer a scooter to her brother – who no longer has a car for financial reasons – to be forgiven.
On the Bouley side, Denis and Fabienne each faced two crises throughout the episode. The first questioned his career and his life choices. However, he ends up getting a helping hand from Renaud, who decides to buy several of his apartment composting machines for his company’s canteens. Denis is over the moon.

Fabienne, meanwhile, had to deal with the obsession of Salomé – who had decided to throw away all her toys, never use hot water again, or drink water or even breathe – to save the planet. . She will finally help her to understand that she cannot give up her childhood, nor carry the weight of the world on her small shoulders.
On a somewhat odd note, Lucas (played here by Timothée Kempen-Hamel) is said to have telekinetic powers. For real. He flew the turkey into the living room without anyone witnessing it. Except us.

Finally, New Year’s Eve can really begin… with a little song referring to Fabienne’s famous thunderous “à table”! This time, it’s Renaud and Denis who call the children who start singing the reasons why they always take their time before obeying – just to annoy their parent!
