After peeling, potato skins are usually thrown away, but they have many properties that are very practical in everyday life. We will show you how you can still use the potato peelings sensibly.
Although most of it ends up directly in the garbage, a lot is hidden behind the skin of a potato. Whether to remove stains or as a snack in between. In a few minutes, the potato peelings can become real everyday helpers – and that too in a sustainable way. The following tips are not only practical, but also easy to implement.
With potato skins, the kitchen becomes sparkling clean
Instead of throwing away the shells, they can also be reused as a cleaning tool; for example for stainless steel surfaces such as the sink. Simply rub the wet side of the bowl on the surface or a specific dirty spot. Then let it take effect, rinse and wipe dry. The sink is already clean!
The ceramic hob can also be cleaned with potato skins. With the wet side you can rub the whole field or a dirty spot. Then add some vinegar and rub it in. Then wipe dry. You’ll have a clean kitchen again in no time.
As a fireplace against soot deposits
Did you know that potato skins can help prevent soot build-up in the chimney? To do this, you simply have to let the shells dry and then burn them in the fireplace. This removes the soot deposits very quickly.
Incidentally, the bowls are not only effective against soot deposits, but can also be used for fires.
Make leather shine again
Not only the kitchen, also leather can be cleaned with potato skins. Again, the wet side of the peel is rubbed on the stain. After that, it often helps to rub it down with a cloth. If the stain isn’t completely gone after that, you can simply repeat the whole process.
Suitable as an after-work snack
While this trick won’t remove stains, it makes for a tasty snack for movie night or in between. Because potato skins can easily be processed into chips.
Simply spread olive oil on the bowls and then put them in the oven at 200 degrees – turning them every now and then. After 15 to 20 minutes the chips are ready. For the ultimate taste, you can season the chips with salt, chilli or rosemary.
