DON’T NOD, the famous video game developer and publisher based in Paris, has just announced a major organizational restructuring. Marking a key stage in its evolution. This transformation is part of a desire to consolidate its expertise in three specific game genres. Each having shaped their success over the years. What exactly can we learn?

A restructuring to focus on the essential at DON’T NOD

With over 15 years of experience developing and creating 10 landmark games such as Remember Me, Life is Strange, Tell Me Why, Vampyr and the recent Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden, DON’T NOD draws on its rich history to structure its teams around three axes: RPG, narrative adventure and action-adventure. This strategic move is presented as an alignment with the company’s long-term vision and ambitions for 2025 and beyond.

This new structure allows DON’T NOD to visibly maintain creative control. Promoting increased responsiveness to market trends and player preferences. Oskar Guilbert, CEO of DON’T NOD, emphasizes that sustainability, innovation and creativity are the pillars of the company’s strategy. The aim is to strengthen DON’T NOD’s position as market leader. Capitalizing on the popularity of RPGs, narrative adventures, and action-adventure games. You might as well concentrate on your own know-how…

New projects

As we can read in a press release, this specialization of sectors promises increased innovation. . In addition, this orientation towards increasingly specialized expertise should also allow optimization of production costs thanks to the development of specialized internal tools. Indeed, having tools for 3 genres simplifies management compared to developing a new tool for each new game.

The French studio currently has seven projects in progress, including five developed in-house, including Lost Records: Bloom & Rage by DON’T NOD Montreal, announced during The Game Awards 2023, and four unannounced projects. The other two projects are developed externally: Koira by the Belgian studio Studio Tolima, and an unannounced project with Tiny Bull Studios.
