The documentary series Arnold, available on Netflix since June 7, provides an intimate insight into the life of legendary actor, Arnold Schwarzenegger. Of course, as FilmStarts reports, she mentions Terminator (1984), the film that launched her career. And as James Cameron revealed in episodes, there has been some disagreement over what is arguably the most iconic quote in the entire film and saga, the infamous: “I’ll be back” (“I’ll be back” in English).
“At some point, in the middle of filming, we shoot this police station scene. Line [de dialogue] is: ‘I’ll come back’. It wasn’t supposed to be a big moment at all. It was literally meant to be, at first glance, ‘No problem, I’ll be back.’ For some reason Arnold didn’t say ‘I’ll be back’. I said, ‘Well, just say ‘I’ll be back’. Keep it simple.’”
For Arnold Schwarzenegger, this line sounded a little “weird” in the “mouth” of a cyborg. He then felt that “I will be back” (“I will be back”) would be a little more machine appropriate. But when he made this suggestion to james cameronthe latter was offended and then asked him: “Are you the screenwriter?The actor replied no. “Well, don’t tell me how to write f***!“That is what is said!
The director ultimately won the dispute and “I’ll be back” became one of the defining moments of the franchise but also of 1980s cinema. for True Lies in 1994.
