don’t throw away your expired flour, it might serve you well

fun, news, tips… what else?

Yes, flour can go bad, but that doesn’t mean you should throw it away without thinking.

Flour, like most foods, does have an expiration date. It is therefore necessary to be vigilant when making a cake or pancakes several months after having opened a package. The date of minimum durability is often very long for flour and even if it is exceeded, know that you can still consume it for many weeks. You will know that it has really become unfit for consumption if it shows mold, if it has changed in appearance, color or smell.

In this case, do not use it any more for your recipes, but do not throw it away. It may still be useful to you. Even expired, the flour can first be used to make glue. All you have to do is mix it in equal parts with water and a little sugar, and heat it, stirring constantly. When the mixture is homogeneous, let it cool and then place it in the refrigerator. You now have an all-natural pot of glue.

Other uses for expired flour

Second little-known usefulness of homes, expired flour can be used as an insecticide against ants that proliferate in your house or apartment. Indeed, swallowed, it will swell the ants and kills them. This technique is ecological and avoids you to use chemicals (even if for that, it is necessary all the same to kill small animals.). It can also be used for body care. Mix it with honey to form a paste and you can apply it on a button that is too thick and unsightly. Ideally, place this preparation in the evening, hold it in place with a plaster and remove it when you wake up. Finally, expired flour can be used as a dry shampoo (it will absorb sebum). In practice, sprinkle it on your scalp and massage it to spread the powder well. Leave for a few minutes then brush your hair, tilting your head forward to remove residue.
