fun, news, tips… what else?

Over time, bath towels become rough. This is often due to limescale buildup, which is easy to get rid of.

A new towel is a real pleasure. The softness of the fibers is a little extra after a good bath or an invigorating shower. Unfortunately, they tend to get rough over time. If the material used is of poor quality, it will happen very quickly. Even the use of fabric softener will not prevent this deterioration. It can even be counterproductive, as the chemicals they contain can clog the washing machine.

Indeed, the state of your washing machine will determine the speed at which your towel will become rough. The hardness of the water, that is to say its load of minerals such as calcium and magnesium will be decisive. They are the main components of limestone that enter the pipes. Over the washes, these substances will impregnate the fibers of your towels and thus make them less soft. There is, however, a simple trick to get rid of it.

Ammonia to make your towels soft

In this matter, ammonia is very effective. Its degreasing and cleaning powers are well established and it is used in many household tasks. He is to handle with care, because it can be very irritating. So use gloves and never breathe it. Pour a cup with your usual detergent and start the machine by adjusting the temperature of the water to the maximum that your laundry can tolerate. This should be enough to remove lime deposits. For more efficiency, you can add white vinegar and lemon juice. This will also have the advantage of masking the aggressive smell of ammonia.

To prevent your towels from quickly becoming rough again, maintain your machine with anti-limescale products. As often, the combination of white vinegar and baking soda does wonders. Regularly run a vacuum machine with these two ingredients and very hot water to remove residue. Also limit the amount of detergent when washing your towels. The excess may accumulate on the fibers.
