The awakening of Phil Spencer, boss of Xbox, must be rough this morning. In addition to a new discless console and a new controller, a massive document leak hints at potential future ZeniMax Media/Microsoft games. And it certainly makes you want it.
New documents from the lawsuit between the FTC and Microsoft in the context of the acquisition of Activision Blizzard have just offered a glimpse of what the video game future of ZeniMax Media (parent company of studios like Bethesda and id) could well look like Software). A confidential forecast list, dating from before the acquisition in March 2021 by Microsoft’s Xbox Game Studios, lists games and projects that have not yet been announced. In three years, the plans of ZeniMax Media and Microsoft may therefore have changed, but here is what it is all about.
Sequels, remakes and original projects
First of all, we learn that before the takeover, work had already started on remasters of Fallout 3 and of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. In the presentation, the first was indicated for an arrival during the fiscal year 2024, and the second in… 2022. Enough to give the developers of Skyblivion.
Then, in fiscal year 2023, ZeniMax Media planned to release DOOM Year Zero and a DLC. Another DLC was then due to arrive in 2024. For the record, DOOM Eternal date of 2020. Still for fiscal year 2024, a continuation of Ghostwire: Tokyo and a certain Dishonored 3 are also present in the list. Of course, The Elder Scrolls VIobviously not expected before 2026 and not on PS5, is also there.
Mysterious projects at ZeniMax Media
But that’s not all. In addition to a DLC for a certain Starfield (game initially expected during fiscal year 2021 in this document), various more vague projects are mentioned. A game Indiana Jones, a “Project Kestrel” (and an expansion), a “Project Platinum”, or even a perfectly vague “Licensed IP Game” are there. The latter might as well be a new Wolfenstein, The Evil Within Or Quake.
If all of this were to come out (note that nothing is guaranteed), there is no doubt that the years to come for Microsoft could be good for those who appreciate these licenses. Especially since all this will arrive directly on Game Pass.
