On the international World Day of Happiness (March 20th) we use the positive effects of dopamine dressing – but the trend also lifts the spirits on dreary days. How it works…

Promise, these colorful feel-good looks will make you feel good. Especially on World Happiness Day, which is celebrated annually on March 20th. Established by the UN General Assembly on June 28, 2012, the day has been celebrated internationally since 2013. And with good reason: the importance of happiness and well-being is a major goal in everyone’s life!

You can help your own happiness every day with small, fashionable decisions. Similar to NOT getting up on the wrong foot every day, a good day begins with choosing the right clothes. Key word: bright colors. Because the colorful nuances help to put us in a positive mood. And then happiness comes almost automatically.

Fashion as a mood enhancer: dopamine dressing

The fashion trend is named after the happiness hormone dopamine. The messenger substance activates the reward center in our brain and makes us so happy. Typically, we release dopamine when we do or get things that make us happy – like delicious food, exercise, social interactions, or when we achieve a goal that we’ve had in mind for a long time.

But a cheerful look can also ensure such a rush of happiness. That’s why bright colors, loud patterns and extravagant styles are the main focus when it comes to dopamine dressing. Because we find the bright tones in particular to be mood-lifting. Anyone who wears happy colors such as yellow, green, turquoise, orange or pink therefore feels more self-confident, livelier and happier. The feel-good looks let us shine from within, we feel energetic and positive.

Dopamine dressing: good mood looks from simple to bold

In order to implement the fashionable mood lifter correctly, one important rule applies: We should feel comfortable in our clothes. Of course, everyone decides how colorful and eye-catching the look can be. Even small color accents such as a statement handbag or an extravagant pair of brightly colored shoes can provide a dopamine kick. If you want to approach the style even more slowly, you can also start with a lipstick in bright pink.

If you have a little more courage when it comes to colour, you can let your creativity run free when it comes to styling. Power suits in bright colors such as turquoise, pink or lemon green are particularly popular.

You can achieve the greatest happy kick if you combine several different shades in a color-blocking style, such as warm pink with lime green, as fashion influencer Leonie Hanne demonstrates with her casual summer style.

This is how we carry the trend in wind and weather

But the bright colors are not only popular on lucky days or in spring and summer. Especially on cold and gray days, knitwear in bright colors can make for a real mood booster care for. Flashy knitted dresses, turtleneck sweaters and cardigans in combination with colorful accessories are our ultimate secret weapon on gray days.

The wonderful thing about the dopamine dressing trend is that it really suits everyone – and everyone can create feel-good looks according to their personal fashion preferences. The motto is very clear: Everything can, nothing must! So, what are you waiting for? Dress happy!
